Respiratory Problems and Coughing?

We are all tired of corona, but it does not seem like corona is tired of us. Infection numbers are rising everywhere at the time I am writing this.
This fact brings a large amount of sorrow, both with the people afflicted by the disease, but also with a lot of other people who are hurt by the lockdown, emotionally and economically by all the measures which has been instated to keep the infection pressure as low as possible. It creates a lot of pain and suffering.
Suicide rates are rising and many are affected by depression and anxiety in parallel with the threatened economy and uncertainty in the political situation.
Sorrow and lungs are often an underlying cause of respiratory problems. The lungs are the most vulnerable organs we have, especially given all the toxins we surround ourselves with. It has furthermore become that part of the year where we see different attacks for viruses and bacteria, which often affects our lungs. This could perhaps be in the form of severe coughing, often accompanied by a gasping for air and a shortness of breath.
It is therefore a good idea to be extra attentive to your lung function in the coming months. A strong and effortless breath is of vital importance, it makes life easier and helps us stay healthy, even if we do not think of our breathing every day.
90 – 97% of all the oxygen we inhale is used by the mitochondria (The cell’s power plant) for the formation of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the energy needed for the body to complete many of its processes. The lung function is already declining when a person is in their twenties.
An adult breathes between 15 and 20 times a minute. That comes out to roughly 22.000 – 30.000 times a day. If you do not breathe, then your heart will stop.
When you inhale, the oxygen is absorbed in through the lungs and transported into the blood. Then when you exhale, the acid carbon dioxide is excreted, which is a waste material left in the lungs. With healthy lungs, plenty of exercise, and oxygen this process effortless, but if you lack oxygen due to poor breathing, then it becomes a load for the other natural excretory pathways.
Coughing is often an overlooked symptom. A danish study shows that 4% of the adult population is suffering from coughing. This means that they have been coughing for at least four weeks, but often longer. Many people with coughs simply accept it as a part of their every day and do not react to it. Sometimes the coughing is accompanied by a squeaky breathing and/or accumulation of mucous. This is not normal. The causes of the cough can be varied, such as asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, allergies, etc.
If you have such persisting problems, then you have to see your doctor and get help, but there are also many things you can do yourself.

The diet

Having a good and nutritious diet is important to keep your lungs healthy. We can eat food, which is good for our lungs so we can aid our lungs functionality and help us breathe freely. Avoid highly acid forming foods, such as red meat, sugar, coffee, and other caffeinated drinks.
Avoid pre-cooked foods. Make your food yourself. It does not have to take a long time if you prepare it wisely. Stay away from canned foods and drinks. Eliminate all forms of energy drinks and other drinks with artificial sweeteners.
You can preferably eat five meals a day, as two large meals and three smaller ones. When it comes to the smaller meals it might be a good idea to stick to nuts, vegetables, or perhaps a lean yogurt.
You should consume dairy products sparsely, such as fatty cheeses, creamy desserts, chocolate, white bread, and pasta.
Make sure you get fresh, and preferably ecological, vegetables every day, such as carrots, kale, cucumber. Make some tasty salads, preferably seasoned with quality spices, and use lemon juice in the dressing instead of balsamic vinegar. Use a high-quality olive oil. Drink plenty of raw juices. Drink them slowly, in small sips.
Eat plenty of the season’s fruits, especially citrus fruits, which are rich in vitamin-C. They can help prevent coughing and accumulation of mucous. Eat plenty of berries, especially blue berries. It is generally considered to be good to get around 600 grams of fruit a day. You may also want to supplement with dried berries.
It is recommended by experts that roughly 40 – 45% of your calories for a lung focused diet should come from high-quality carbohydrates. Make sure that your carbohydrates are from healthy foods, such as brown rice quinoa, corn, buckwheat, seeds, and nuts. Flaxseeds could perhaps be consumed in the form of a flaxseed oil.
Fatty fish cleans the lungs and has a good effect, both on your lungs and your respiratory system in general.
Eggs and legumes are good sources of protein.
Supplement your diet with clean quality water. It is important. Way too many people do not drink water at all. Make sure you get at least six glasses of water, which is not mixed with anything. It strengthens and cleans the airways.
Cut back on the salt and perhaps consider using a tasty herbal salt. Salt binds to the fluid and can overload your lungs, which will make it difficult to get sufficient oxygen and contribute to poor blood circulation.

Dietary supplements

  • Make sure, as always, to take a good and easily absorbable multivitamin/mineral product.
  • You should also add extra B-vitamins gathered in a complex with high dosages.
  • Supplement with extra vitamin-C, preferably with bioflavonoids.
  • An extra supplement of zinc might be a good idea.
  • Selenium can also be taken with good effect.
  • magnesium supplement may also be helpful.
  • Extra A-vitamins are good for your mucous membranes
  • Vitamin-D is good for the lung function, therefore you should ensure that your levels of vitamin-D in your blood is sufficiently high.
  • Omega 3 fatty acid is especially important for your lung function. It is available both in liquid and capsule form, also available for vegans and vegetarians.
  • N-Acetyl Cysteine also known as NAC is a dietary supplement, which is safe and effective. It has been shown to reduce the frequency of coughing and ease respiratory problems.
    NAC is a molecular variant of Cysteine. It is seen by experts as being more stable and effective than the amino acid Cysteine itself. NAC is mucous reducing and also great for chronic bronchitis, asthma, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, and other afflictions involving the airways. Many studies have been conducted to prove the effectiveness of NAC. It is patentable. That might be one of the reasons why it has become more known than the original cysteine.
    It is thought that many elderlies and chronically ill can have great benefits from this amino acid.
  • Kan Jang is the name of a product that contains two herbs, Andrographis Paniculate and Eleuthrococcus Senticosus also known as devil’s bush or Siberian ginseng. Andrographis is an old well-known remedy against colds and light inflammation in the airways, but it can also lessen coughing, both in acute situations and for the people who suffer from chronic coughing.
  • Sibirian Ginseng is known for being an immune system stimulant, increase endurance, and resilience. It improves ones mental and physical performance, gives plenty of energy, and combats stress. It is safe to take over a longer time period.
  • Reishi is a mushroom, which is thought to be a stimulant for the immune system and is especially good for people chronic bronchitis, cough, different viruses, and a long list of other diseases. Reishi is considered to be safe to take for longer periods, but there is also a slight chance of developing an allergy to the mushroom if you use it for more than three – six months. It therefore might be a good idea to take a break from it and start again if you feel it helps you.

Tips

  • Make sure you get plenty of fresh air. Sea- and mountain air can work wonders. If you live by the ocean, then make sure you inhale the fresh ocean air daily. Or you can enjoy the mountain air if it is closer.
  • It can be a really good idea to learn breathing exercises with a therapist, that is trained in breathing techniques.
  • Our skin is called our second lungs. You should therefore make sure to avoid synthetic fabrics in your clothing and instead use natural ones, such as cotton, bamboo, silk, etc.
  • One of the first clairvoyants I visited when I was young, started out by telling me that I should never dress myself in synthetic clothes. I did not understand the reasoning back then, however, later I did. When I was young, I had a particularly delicate lung function.  It is important that all the skin’s pores can breathe.
  • We live in a warm country and therefore use many antiperspirants. They prevent the pores from excreting all the toxins. You should instead use natural deodorants without aluminum. Some therapists claim that if you cannot eat or drink it, then it does not belong on your skin, which is semipermeable.
  • You should use a dry brush on your entire body, every once in a while. It helps the pores breathe easier.
  • It is ideal to breathe in through the nose, as the air is filtered and warmed, and then breathe out through the mouth.
  • Soft exercise, such as yoga, tai chi, and the like can strengthen your lung function. There are certain exercise groups dedicated to improving the lung function, in certain cities.
  • When you are at home, then sing and dance all that you can. It is life affirming and brings joy, both physically and mentally. Perhaps you cannot do it for long periods in the beginning, but you will stick with it, and before long you will see that your endurance is greater and greater.
